EssiacPowder Original Herbal Formula - 1.5 oz , (Essiac International)

EssiacPowder is an herbal formula that was used since 1922 by Canadian nurse Rene Caisse in helping poeple with serious illness. The original formula was passed on to her by an Ojibway medicine man. The active botanicals in Essiac have been used independently in naturopathic medicine for hundreds of years to help cleanse the blood and nourish individual cells, enhancing their strength and integrity.

The herbs in this formulation have helped to restore health to thousands of people worldwide with no adverse side effects. They have been proven to be perfectly safe and effective to take in conjunction with, and to supplement, other therapies or medications.

Other products on the market may claim to have the same botanicals as EssiacPowder. Some use misleading brand names. A few even call themselves the original illegally. EssiacPowder from Essiac Canada International from Ottawa, Onterio Canada is the only true Essiac herbal formula that has been shown to be effective since 1922. Always look for the Resperin name, Rene Caisse's picture and her authorized signature on the box to be sure you are getting the original Essiac formula.

RENE CAISSE, A HERO & HEALER

Many believe Rene Caisse (pronounced "reen case") is one of the greater heroines of the past century. In fact, she was a hero in the true sense. This modest Canadian nurse discovered a natural herbal forumla that she claimed helped Cancer suferrers, yet she took no money for it and died in relative obscurity.

She helped restore hope to the hopeless, and many claim she restored health and life where only death was left. She helped hundreds both in body and soul — such was her giving way.

Rene didn't feel herself a writer so she never wrote an autobiography. She did, however, write a 39 page booklet entitled "I Was Canada's Cancer Nurse" which was published in the seventies. Additionally, a collection of her writing and interviews was published posthumously in the Bracebridge Examiner.

HISTORICAL INSIGHT INTO RENE CAISSE'S "CANCER TEA" OF YESTERDAY. - written by Xan H. Livia, September 2003

The herbal gift:
In 1922, Nurse Rene Caisse met an 80-year-old female patient who 30 years previously had taken an herbal tea for her advanced breast cancer. Rene Caisse interested in the possible health benefits of the "cancer herbs" asked her for the herbal recipe and held on to it for safekeeping.

In 1924, Rene Caisse’s elderly aunt was diagnosed with inoperable stomach cancer. With no other options, Rene Caisse asked her aunt’s doctor, R.O. Fisher, if her aunt could try the "cancer tea." recipe. Much to everyone’s surprise the aunt became well and lived for another 21 years.

Dr. Fisher was so impressed with the aunt’s recovery, suggested that Rene Caisse experiment with the tea on other terminal cancer patients. The tea showed potential and under Dr. Fisher’s encouragement, Rene continued her experiments on mice inoculated with human carcinoma. It was through this research Rene Caisse refined the herbal recipe which contained eight herbs, down to the four-herb formula of Sheep sorrel, Burdock root, Slippery elm, and Indian rhubarb. Rene Caisse called this herbal formula "Essiac"- her maiden name spelled backwards.

The long and difficult Journey:
In 1926, eight doctors signed a petition, submitted to Canada’s National Health and Welfare in Ottawa, requesting an independent study on the health benefits of Rene Caisse’s Essiac formula. The government’s response was to have Rene Caisse arrested for "practicing medicine with-out a license". Upon further investigation, the accusations were dropped and a research laboratory at Christie Street Veteran’s Hospital in Toronto was set up for further research into the medical benefits of Essiac.

Dr. Fredrick Banting, the Canadian discoverer of insulin, invited Rene Caisse to continue with her research at a university level to gain a wider acceptance and recognition for her work. Rene Caisse had to turn down this prestigious offer as her educational background was only that of a nurse and felt that no matter how credible her research was, someone with higher credentials than hers would usurp all her efforts and claim the prestige and honors for themselves.

This possible threat became clear when Rene Caisse was requested to provide the full Essiac recipe with no guarantee that she would be allow to continue in the research project. This was the start of the long difficult journey, dealing with government and medical politics. *It is important to note that Rene Caisse discovered Essiac was also a remedy for diabetes and her Essiac findings were possibly a threat to Dr. Banting's research and academic credibility.

In 1927, Rene Caisse resigned from her nursing position at the hospital, to help assist the doctors with the animal research at the Christie Street Veteran's Hospital and to continue treating terminal cancer patients from her home. Rene Caisse legally could not accept payment for her research treatments and lived on donations after giving up her position with the hospital. Rene Caisse moved from Toronto, Ontario to Bracebridge in Northern Ontario where her treatment studies continued.

In 1935, with the approval of the Bracebridge Township, a "Cancer Clinic" was set up for Rene Caisse at the British Lion Hotel. Rene Caisse worked long hours helping hundreds of patients at the Bracebridge Clinic three days per week, then traveling by train to Toronto for one day, and on to Chicago for a night’s stay to treat patients every second week. Rene Caisse was creating quite a following with her Essiac formula.

In 1936, Dr. Banting once again invited Rene Caisse to set up new clinical animal trials using Rous sarcoma infected mice. This time Rene Caisse was not requested to divulge the formula. However, as per the legal contract, she could only treat the animals on the days she treated her patients. Rene Caisse felt this was a clever move to divert her from treating patients to control and eventually dissolve her ever-growing public recognition at the Bracebridge Cancer Clinic.

Rene Caisse turned down Dr. Banting’s offer, realizing how critical it was to keep the Essiac formula out of the hands of the medical establishment until she was guaranteed that the Essiac formula would not be discredited or suppressed from society. Instead, Rene Caisse initiated petitions to the Canadian Minister of Health and the head of the Provincial Government of Ontario, requesting research support for her Essiac clinical studies and to eventually procure clinical treatment on a larger scale within the medical community.

In 1938, a Private Members Bill was introduced into the Ontario Legislature on behalf of Rene Caisse, which was debated, to no avail. It seemed that to counteract Rene Caisse’s petition, a separate Bill to create the new "Cancer Commission" was introduced into the Ontario Legislature by the Canadian Minister of Health, Harold Kirby, - only one week before Rene Caisse’s Bill was presented to the Ontario legislature. Rene Caisse felt the Canadian Minister of Health, through the "Kirby Bill" was used to delay her Private Members Bill and in the guise of the new Cancer Commission would have the supreme power to control and suppressed all future cancer treatments.

Rene Caisse was devastated by this tactic and in addition, was angry and frustrated that the newly formed Cancer Commission had the legal power to obtain her secret Essiac formula or fear prosecution with penalty of hefty fines and/or imprisonment. To add to the outrage, the Cancer Commission was not to be held legally responsible should the Essiac formula be "accidentally’ divulged to someone else.

Rene Caisse’s years of hard work were now legally suppressed, forcing her to close down her Bracebridge Cancer Clinic in the summer of 1938 or face prosecution. Public outcry forced the Ontario Government to reopen the clinic’s doors once again in August 1938.

The cancer commission:
In 1939, the Cancer Commission was invited by Rene Caisse to visit the Cancer Clinic in Bracebridge, Ontario. Two commissioners interviewed Rene Caisse and examined clinical records, which were filed for review at the upcoming Cancer Hearing held in Toronto, Ontario, later that year. At the Cancer Hearing, only 35 of Rene Caisse’s patients were allowed to testify on behalf of the health benefits of Essiac.

In 1940, six months after the Cancer Hearing in Toronto, the Cancer Commission concluded that the Essiac formula had no cancer benefits. *Public support and outcry, and a signed petition of over 55,000 names may have provided Rene Caisse the protection needed to keep the Essiac formula secure from the Cancer Commission's authority.

In 1941, three years after marrying her lawyer, Charles McGaughey, Rene Caisse closed down the Bracebridge Cancer Clinic for good. All of Rene Caisse’s patients required a doctor’s written permission before Rene Caisse could legally treat a patient with Essiac.

After the Cancer Commission’s Hearing in Toronto in 1939, doctors were reluctant to refer cancer patients on to Rene Caisse for clinical treatment. Rene Caisse lived with her husband up to Northern Ontario, until his death in 1943, to return back to Bracebridge where she continued treating desperately ill people in seclusion.
