A native of Sri Lanka (also known as Ceylon), Cinnamon has been a popular spice since ancient times when it was highly prized amongst the ancient nations who used to give this spice as a gift fit for a monarch and other great rulers alike. It was even imported to Egypt from China as early as 2000 BC and mentioned in the Bible where Moses is commanded to use both sweet cinnamon and cassia in a holy annointing oil.
Believed by the Ancient Romans as a sacred spice, it was said that Emperor Nero burned a year's supply of cinnamon at the funeral of his wife, Poppaea Sabina, in 65 AD and Cinnamon was considered a status symbol during the Middle Ages when spices held an importance in trade.
SUGGESTED USAGE
Add a new twist on a couple of favorites by dropping a teaspoon of Cinnamon Flavor in a batter of peanut butter cookies or a batter of chocolate chip cookies.
